Lena’s work begins with a simple belief: ancestral healing is the foundation of any healing journey. Born on a Caribbean island, she started apprenticing at age five with her Cuban grandmother, a lineage holder and spiritual and herbal healer, and grew up treating dreams as part of everyday life. Today she weaves that traditional wisdom with what she calls mind medicine: parts work, dreamwork, mindfulness, somatic writing, and creativity, with somatic bodywork methods.
Lena holds an M.A. in psychology and is a graduate of The Moving on Center in Berkeley and the Novato Institute for Somatic Research. She studied with Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen, founder of Body-Mind Centering, and is a guild certified Feldenkrais teacher. Her mentors have included her elders in Cuba, dream researcher and psychologist Leslie Ellis, and Miki Kashtan, a sociologist, Nonviolent Communication trainer, and systemic change leader.
Lena is also the founder of Vital Stories, a nonprofit offering workshops for women that bring together somatics, ecology, writing, and other creative arts. She also supports social change leaders in the Bay Area, Latin America, and locally in collaboration with the Ink People Center for Arts and Culture.
