A Piece of History Feedsack Stud Earrings #12

Feed sacks bring to mind poverty of the Great Depression but at the same time there is a romance to the idea that women could make something beautiful from something so mundane. Before flour and grains were put into paper and plastic bags they were stored in fabric bags. The farmers wives were resourceful women and took notice that the feedsacks were good fabric to sew and and the producers caught on to this and started making the feedsacks in a variety of prints. When the harder times hit in the early 1900’s women took this opportunity to create patchwork clothing from the beautiful feedsack cloth they had. I created these stud earrings by using 1930’s feedsack fabric to create fabric covered buttons. The earrings are 1/2 inch diameter and have hypoallergenic backings.
